+ Experienced Estimator
The Estimator is responsible for coordinating the efforts of the estimate(s) assigned through business development processes and is accountable for the overall outcome of the assigned estimates. The individual effectively works within a dynamic team concept and executes estimating duties while engaged in communication with both internal and external stake holders such as; business development, project management, clients, architects, subcontractors, vendors and manages a variety of tasks simultaneously — with the goal of providing a fully reviewed, responsible, accurate, and on time estimate that results in acquisition and recognized profits.
+ Essential Job Functions
- Professionally represent Sun Construction and effectively support the companies most critical business objectives
- Cultivate new and existing business relationships by engaging in client pursuits, RFP’s, and interviews
- Positively promote Sun to external business partners and contacts
- Establish and foster positive long-term relationships with all business partners including owners, architects, engineers and subcontractors
- Provide client with timely, accurate estimates and value engineering
- Identify and estimate tasks in compliance with contractual requirements.
- Prepare estimates for all stages of design from Conceptual through Final Construction Documents (Design/Build, Guaranteed Maximum Price, and Hard Bid).
- Lead the transition of information to the Project Manager and entire operations team once a project is ready to execute.
- Be the single estimating responsibility for large, complex projects.
- Ability to mentors/teach junior estimators
- Shows ability to complete both large CM/GC projects as well as large, complex competitive bid projects.
- Demonstrates exceptional presentation and sales skills to assist and serve on RFP/Interview teams for new projects.
- Manage estimating process through initial advertising/prequalification and solicitation of subcontractors, bid evaluation process and award.
- Develop and write all bid packages and subcontractor scopes of work.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills with Project Manager and Superintendent and externally with Owner, Architect/Engineer, and trade partners.
- Previous experience with projects in the government, laboratory, clean room, secure space, manufacturing, higher education and technology sector is preferred.
- Embrace Sun Construction safety practices and policies as prescribed by company to ensure safety on jobsite and incorporates related work efforts into cost estimates appropriately.
- Estimate and properly review past performance of manpower and equipment requirements for specific self-perform operations
- Understand the impact of general conditions terminology within contract language
- Utilize conceptual estimating skills and identify items required for complete systems, even when not clearly indicated within construction documents
- Make decisions in a timely manner
- Understand when to involve upper management in decisions
- Identify level of risk and consequences associated and ensure company involvement when required
- Soft skills in Preconstruction Management is also preferred
+ Skills
- Versatile in computer skills; Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel
- Proficient in use of estimating software; Sage-Timberline preferred
- Proficient in Procore Bidding & Preconstruction is preferred
- Versed in reading drawings and specifications
- Strong understanding of commercial construction industry practices and standards
- Knowledge of construction costs, project budgeting, vendor selection, client proposals and owner/architect/general contractor industry expertise
- Strong customer service orientation
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking and planning skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Education and Experience
- Minimum Eight to Ten (8-10) years commercial estimating experience is preferred
- B.S. degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Business or equivalent field is preferred.
+ Compensation and Benefits
- Salaried/Exempt Position
- 90K to 120K
- Position comes with health, dental, vision, and life insurance as well as short term disability insurance. Time off that begins accruing immediately.
+ Workplace Policies and Agreements
- FSLA Status – Salaried/Exempt
- Current Driver’s License is required.
- UA/7 Year Background Check is required upon acceptance.
- Schedule – M-F
