NREL: Lab 113/115 Remodel & Gas Storage/Distribution

This project combined two contracts into one and included the remodel and build-out of a new research reactor lab featuring all building services and research gases, along with lab casework, five fume hoods, and three enclosed reactor pods with research gases. The second component was the construction of a new gas storage pad and canopy with underground gas distribution into the research building and throughout the research labs. Both projects involved upgrades to gas monitoring and alarming systems. Additional work included reconfiguring the smaller existing building’s gas storage area to upgrade fire walls, install a roof-mounted explosion-proof exhaust system, and rework the fire alarm and electrical systems.

This was a large operational and fully occupied research facility with complex systems requiring careful handling to prioritize research and safety. The work extended throughout the building and the exterior, including both gas storage facilities.
